On Thursday 6th March, Year 4 pupils from Thomas Bewick School enjoyed an unforgettable educational visit to Solidarity Farm near Rothbury. With the sun shining, the children began their day with a guided tour of the farm, learning about its daily operations and natural surroundings. They then had the chance to meet the animals—highlighted by a special moment seeing a newly born calf—and even climbed aboard a real tractor for a hands-on experience.

In the afternoon, the focus turned to outdoor learning and teamwork, as pupils engaged in den building activities designed to develop their communication, collaboration, and resilience. One enthusiastic student shared, “It has been really good looking around the farm but the best bit was making the dens and then sitting in the hammock!”

The day was filled with excitement, learning, and laughter, and both pupils and staff alike had a fantastic time. Thomas Bewick School would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the team at Solidarity Farm and to Bridie Melkerts from the College Valley Education and Access Programme for making this enriching experience possible.
